A united congregation of the Arch Street Presbyterian Church founded in 1806 ant the Girard Avenue Welsh Presbyterian Church founded as a Welsh Calvinistic Methodist Church in 1892 evolving from a Welsh Church founded in 1846. The Church occupies a building dedicated in 1855.
The purpose of the Guild is to support the Church by acquainting others with the values inherent in our Welsh heritage through Christina fellowship, Welsh music, Christian cultural and ethnic programs and missionary activity and support.
The Welsh Guild at Arch St. Presbyterian Church came into being following
the merger of the Girard Ave. Welsh and the Arch St. congregations. The purpose
of the Welsh Guild is to further and perpetuate the Welsh cultural, missionary,
musical and religious activities at this center city Church through programs
which will foster Christian fellowship at the Church and aid in the growth of
the Christian Church by making all, (Welsh and non-Welsh) aware of an able to
share in and enjoy the religious values and heritage inherent in Welsh culture.
The Welsh Guild maintains a library of Welsh books at this location and welcomes
donations of such books, manuscripts and artefacts. In addition, The Welsh Guild
aids in and seeks to bring activities to the St. David's Chapel of the Church
which compliment the stated purposes.
Membership in the Welsh Guild is open to all, regardless of church affiliation, who share in our aims an enjoy participation in this type of fellowship. and wish to aid in its growth. All persons present at meetings are, by their presence, considered to have an interest in the Guild, are full members, an are eligible to vote and take an active part in Welsh Guild affairs.
The Welsh Guild of Arch S. Presbyterian is financially supported by fee will offerings at meetings, by direct contributions and bequest and by a generous annual contribution an other support from the Session and members of Arch St. Presbyterian Church.
