Rhodes and Lindos

We spent an entire day at the island of Rhodes, visiting the medieval city of Rhodes (legendary home of the Colossus, and then later the Knights of St. John) and the ancient city of Lindos.

This is a statue of the Virgin Mary in the ancient city of Rhodes. In medieval times, the city of Rhodes served as the garrison for the Knights of St. John, who set up a hospital on the island for Crusaders coming back from the Holy Land.

A dolphin mosaic in the Palace of the Grand Masters in Rhodes. There's lots of mosaics in the castle, taken from various Roman-era dwellings throughout the Aegean sea, but this is the only one we could get a good picture of.

The city of Lindos is southeast of Rhodes, and was the home to another wonderful Acropolis. From the top of the hill where the Acropolis is located, you can see the beautiful, clear waters of the Aegean.

This is a view of the bay of Lindos from the other side of the Acropolis. From this angle, the hills in the lower-left hand corner of the picture obscure the outlet of the lake.

This is Frances at the Acropolis.

This is Ed at the Acropolis, looking not quite as cute as Frances.

Awwwww.....

Taken by a random German tourist, for whom we just took a picture of him and HIS girlfriend/wife.
