I've been hearing rumors BMW will drop the R1100RS models in 2000. I hadn't considered the first of the new generation boxer would be the first dropped, I thought it would be the first to be updated.
It is easy for me to visualize a spot in the BMW line up for a new RS. There is quite a jump from the R1100S to a R1100RT.
Picture a RS with the new frame, engine, six-speed tranny, twin pipes tucked in under the saddle, carbon-fiber front fender, and an asymmetric headlight. A bike with more saddle area and legroom than a R1100S, complete with adjustable windscreen, handlebars, saddle, and footpegs. Might as well add a few cc's to the engine too.
Certainly if I can take the trouble to put together some pictures, BMW can take the trouble to build them. Here are pictures of the new, year 2000, BMW R1200RS and R1200RSL:
