New for the 1999 CR-V Pickup!
Amid rumors of a V-6 for the 1999 CR-V pickup, Honda has surprised everyone by stuffing a V-8 under the hood. Rated at 305hp, the 4.5L V-8 provides the mini-hauler with serious go-power. |

| To help the new engine breathe, a dual exhaust system is now standard. Other goodies include a six-speed transmission and a manual override switch for 4-wheel drive. |

Someone on the CR-V Owners Forum asked if Honda was planning a pickup version of the CR-V. Since the CR-V has a unibody, and not much towing capacity, I'd be surprised if they would produce one. The idea was intriguing though. I did a bit of editing on one of my CR-V photos and came up with my concept of what a CR-V pickup would look like. Of course, anything worth doing is worth overdoing, so here is also my idea of what a six-wheeled clubcab CR-V would look like. Note: Pictures were taken with an Apple QuickTake 200 . Retouching was done with Denaba's Canvas on an Apple Macintosh PowerPC. Click on image to view full-sized. |

After I had created the two-door CR-V pickup, I tried to come up with something which would be the ultimate in the CR-V pickup lineup. Thus the six-wheel CR-V pickup was born. Imagine my astonishment at seeing a six-wheeled Landcruiser on page 15 of the June 3, 1998 issue of AutoCar.
Why hadn't I thought of a seven-passenger CR-V with 3-foot wide running boards, side ladders, and a shotgun (literally) seat which raises up 5 feet through a cut-out roof? What was I thinking? Well, I do like the suicide doors on mine (maybe they thought those would be too dangerous for their safari-mobile). I will admit the rifle-rest mounted on the roof is a nice touch on the Toyota. |
