Honda CR-V Tweeter Kit

Installation Instructions, Page 3 of 3

The following (black) text is from the Honda Installation Instructions (I added my *tips* and photos). Please refer to the Honda instructions when installing your tweeter kit. Click on image to view full sized.

16. Release the clip that secures the vehicle speaker harness.

17. Connect the 2-pin connector of the vehicle harness to the 2-pin connector of the tweeter harness, then secure them to the vehicle speaker harness with one wire tie near the clip you just released.

18. Reinstall the vehicle speaker harness clip.

19. Secure the tweeter harness to the vehicle harness with one wire tie in the area shown. Install the wire tie so it does not interfere with the window rail.

20. Install the tweeter on the door mirror base by inserting its two clips and a retaining pawl into the holes in the door mirror base.

21. Connect the 2-pin connector from the tweeter to the 2-pin connector of the tweeter harness. To prevent interference between the tweeter harness and the door pane, position the tweeter harness below the vehicle harness; then secure the harness to the vehicle harness with one wire tie in the area shown.

22. Reinstall the door panel:

  • Take care not to damage the tweeter.
  • Check that the tweeter harness does not get pinched between the door panel and the door.
  • Check that there is clearance between the door panel and the dashboard when the door is closed.
  • Reinstall the three panel clips, the six tapping screws, and the clip.
*BIG TIP* How to prevent a scratched tweeter panel.

Until you protect your new tweeters, don't even think of placing the door panel anywhere near them. There is a very sharp corner on the door panel -- right below the back edge of the tweeter. It will instantly put a Grand Canyon-sized (at least that's how it looked at the time) scratch in that new plastic.

The first picture on the right shows my scratched left tweeter panel. My right tweeter isn't scratched because I protected it with a piece of duct tape before installing the door panel. Although I didn't do it, I suspect one could sand down the sharp corner a bit too.

It is best to start installing the door panel at the corner nearest the tweeter. Again, use extreme caution during this part.

23. Reinstall all removed parts.

24. Repeat steps 2 through 23 to install the right tweeter.

25. Check that all wire harnesses are routed properly and all connectors are plugged in.

26. Connect the negative cable to the battery.

27. Reset the clock and the radio station presets.

It took me about 2 hours to install the left tweeter, but that was also fiddling with taking pictures. The right speaker only took about 1/2 hour.

That's it. Time to crank up the tunes!!!
