sanctuary :: journey :: transgender :: inspiration
The Internet has changed the way we transgendered learn about ourselves and our gender issues as we struggle on our journeys. It has been a powerful vehicle for drawing us out of our closets. Where once we each thought we were lone anomalies and social aberrations, we find we are part of a larger community. There are thousands of websites representing our transgendered brothers and sisters. Plus there are Internet forums for TG discussion and support groups.
There are many hub sites for TG information; in addition, many websites for TG individuals have well-compiled lists of important links. I don't even keep up with these resource lists any more, so I can't refer you to any. But even casual browsing will lead you to them.
I'll just list a few sites here that I have enjoyed or have found useful.
A highly respected scientist in the field of computing, Lynn Conway also has endured a tough journey as a transsexual woman. For some reason, there are many trangendered persons who are computer professionals, and we all admire Lynn for her bravery, endurance, and intelligence.
I think B.C.Holmes has a great site. I love how she thinks and writes. Perhaps the fact that she is a sister INTJ has biased my opinion. I've missed some opportunities -- most notably when she was in Portland -- but someday I want to meet her in person.
Jennifer Diane Reitz provides lots of good advice and opinions -- plus Jennifer is one of the brains behind Otakuworld, an anime site.
Melanie Anne Phillips has a melodic voice that we all envy. She shares her journey and learnings at her Transsexual Support Site.
Anne Lawrence, M.D. has accumulated a storehouse of medical information relevant to transsexuals.
Andrea James provides an informative Transsexual Road Map
Katherine Heather has some enjoyable articles at her site.
Gianna Israel is a gender counselor whose articles are published by major TG publications and support group newsletters nationwide.
I have to mention a couple of my dear Asian sisters. Trisha Kuwahara is a beautiful friend who I refer to as "my little twin sister," since we share the same birthday (although she is three years younger than me). Ginger Li is a gorgeous woman I met at Esprit; her site has some wonderfully written stories.
I would be remiss if I did not mention one special site. One of our transgendered peers is murdered in a hate crime once a month on average. Remembering our Dead honors the memory of each stolen jewel.
