AMORPHIS is from Finland. The band's recent albums emanate Finnish environment and its folk tastes. Their lyrics are taken from traditional Finnish folk stories, poems and songs. The death voice and ethnic melodies melt into their peculiar harmonies. Strong yet melancholy music will hit your mind. Welcom to the AMORPHIS World!
AMORPHIS started in 1990 in Helsinki, led by
Esa Holopainen (G) and Jan Rechberger (former D). After Tomi Koivussari (Vo + G) and Olli-Pekka Laine (B) joined the band, they made a demo tape titled "Disment of Soul," which led to the contract with Relapse records. In 1992, they released the album, The Karelian Isthmus, which they established their concept of their music. The second album, Tales from the Thousand Lakes, was released in 1992. After the release of the second, Pekka Kasari (D) replaced Rechberger, Kim Rantala (Key) replaced Kasper Martenson, and Koskinen (Vo) joined the band. The third album, Elegy, was released in 1996, then the fourth in 1999.
