They are from Sweden. They play Death Metal, probably can-be-said. However, their musical approach contains melodic elements as well as aggressive ones. It also their characteristic to combine northern European folk sound and hard music. The story-telling albums expand your imaginations and lead you to the In Flame world.

IN FLAMES started in Göthberg(Gothenburg), Sweden, in 1990. However, at the time, the members except Jesper (G), Glenn (G), Johan (B), were not fixed and have changed several times. In 1993, with the lineup of those 3 plus Mikael Stanne (Vo) from Dark Tranquility and Carl Naslund (G), they made a demo containing 3 songs ('In Flames,' 'Upon an Oaken Throne,' & 'Clad in Shadows'), called "Promo-93." Then, they got a contract with a Swedish Independent label "Wrong Again Records" and, in August,1994, released the first full-length album "Lunar Strain." (In this album, Jesper played the drums, too.) This year, they also provided a song 'Eye of the Beholder' for Metallica's tribute album. After perplexed member unstability period, the current lineup was established, and the 2nd full album "The Jester Race" was out in 1996.
